Sundry Foods is an enterprise based on low-tech and nature-friendly techniques.
It was started in Ahmedabad in 1994 by Abhay Mangaldas as an experiment in using
alternate energy for dehydration of fruits and vegetables. It employs labor that is
predominantly female.
In the eight years since its inception, it has carved a small niche for itself in the
high-end food and beverage industry. Over the next two years, it hopes to identify an
adequately large market to allow for backward integration of its production facility to
the farm level. Such an effort will not only move the farmer up the value chain but also provides
employment to women in the rural areas
